Despite a strong development of the construction sector in Central and Eastern Europe, the offer of new homes still cannot fully meet the demand, claims UniCredit Group. The region is characterized by a large number of people living in their own homes. In Romania as much as 96 per cent of people live in a home in their ownership. Croatia follows with 92 per cent, Bulgaria with 91 per cent.
Central and Eastern Europe has a much higher real estate owners average than West Europe, 64 to 77 per cent. Still, Eastern Europe is lagging behind the West by quality, as around 70 per cent of buildings were built before 1990.
