Home sales in Croatia falling, prices of new homes up by 26 percent last year

Average price of new housing in Croatia was HRK 12,760 or EUR 1,750 per square meter in the second half of 2007, which is by 16.8 per cent more than in the same period in 2006. In whole year the prices of new homes rose by 25.9 percent.

Prices in Zagreb were higher than in the rest of the country, with over HRK 14,000 or EUR 1,920 per square meter, up by 13 percent since 2006. In other areas, average price was HRK 10,409, up by 9.3 per cent, reported the Central Bureau of Statistics (Crostat). A total of 3,110 new homes were sold in Croatia last year, including 1,767 in Zagreb. This is by 8.3 per cent less than in 2006, when 3,389 new homes were sold.
