10 per cent more tourists in January

Last year’s positive trend of the tourist turnover continued in January this year. The Central Bureau of Statistics (Crostat) reports a 10 per cent increase in tourist arrivals and an 11 per cent increase in the number of overnight stays compared to the same month in 2007.
The number of domestic tourists rose by 6 per cent to 80,000, who recorded 8 per cent more overnight stays (208,600), making 60 per cent of the total number. With 54,300 arrivals and 140,000 overnight stays, foreign tourists recorded the growth of 17 and 15 per cent respectively.
The most overnight stays is accounted to Italians (18 per cent), followed by tourists from Bosnia and Herzegovina (12.5 per cent), Germany and Slovenia (9 per cent each), and Austria (8 per cent).
