New apartment sale in Zagreb down by 8.6 percent

The Zagreb Statistics Department issued the data on apartment sales for the first nine months of 2007, showing an 8.7 percent fall. While 1,211 apartments were sold in the first three quarters of 2006, last year the number stopped at 1,107.
At the same time, the average price of a square meter rose by 27.7 percent to HRK 13,467. The city’s statistics is not comprehensive as it covers only new apartments and the data are collected only from companies with 20 or more employees registered in Zagreb. Still, it shows a trend, as it has been collected by the same method since 2003.
Average size of an apartment sold in the first nine months of 2007 was 63.8 square meters, compared to 70.3 in 2006. The number of issued building permits for all facilities remained the same, while the value of construction work in Zagreb rose by 6 percent, from HRK 3.59 to 3.81 billion.
